Social-insurance Undergraduate Research (SURF) Fellows

SURF is a competitive, in-person summer fellowship program held in collaboration with partner institutions. This program provides promising undergraduate students with an introduction to social insurance; the policies surrounding public support systems; research investigating these, and their impact. Participants will receive a stipend as a SURF Fellow.

The programs focus on learning about the history, policies, and economics of public support systems through lectures, readings, group discussions, and presentations. Guest speakers working in policy-related careers share cutting-edge research and career advice. Participating scholars develop career skills and receive mentored training on coding, data visualization, career development.

Following the fellowship, SURF fellows have opportunties to intern with researchers and often continue to be engaged with faculty leading the SURF programs.
